- I enjoy performing and entertaining. I love to help people and give them a reason to smile. Whether it be a mindless rant on why you should always buy the highest quality Bacon, Toilet Paper, and Laundry Detergent, or being on stage drumming or playing accordion with a group of talented musicians, or whatever: I love to help people and make them smile.
- While Facebook is incredibly dominant right now fact is that it's starting to trend downward in popularity. I post up many different things there such as events, announcements, the occasional rant - but the bottom line is that I don't own my FB account. This, the blog and website, I do own! (Which has been really easy to set up thanks to bluehost.com) So long as I continue to pay the small monthly fee: benjamindecastro.com is all mine!
- Anyone who's talked to me over the past 18 months about business related topics has probably heard me mention that I've become a heavy listener to various podcasts on a number of topics. Productivity, Marketing, Leadership, Alignment - there's all sorts of great content out there. One thing I've come to the realization is that I do have something to say, sometimes it can help others and simply put - that's what I love to do!
Some of those presentations have been awesome! Like a Tony Robbins at the Airport Raddison conference awesome! (At least in my mind anyway) Some have totally sucked. So what's been the difference?
Practice, Preparation, and Experience.
The ones that went really well - I was prepared, made notes, did some research etc. I practiced the key points in the mirror, recorded myself, listened to what and how I was delivering the content.
The times I sucked was because under-prepared, failed to connect with the target audience and missed the objectives that the organizer had hoped I'd cover.
The good news is I've never been paid by any group, but recently I've been challenged and encouraged by a number of people to possibly take my presenting to the next level. Recent presentations have been proven to be extremely valuable to both the groups I was speaking to, as well as the company I represent.
In order to take it to the next level there are some preliminary things I need to do - one of them is creating my own platform. Now I'm not leaving Cardi's Furniture. I love working there, have great bosses who have taught me a lot and I get to do some awesome things. Cardi's will continue to be my full-time career focus but I'd like to see what happens if I set the goal to build the platform bigger than the Southern New England area.
I don't have much to offer other than a 7th grade education, wicked ADHD, a love for the circus and all things Muppets... Sure - they'll hire me to talk to a room full of professionals... Sure they will!
There you have it - No big secret or hidden agenda - it's all right there. I know the website and my messaging will evolve over time. I'm going to make a ton mistakes but among those will hopefully be a few good moves that just might land me the Keynote Speakers Role at the MFSA someday!
So for a great laugh, stay tuned!
-man it was tough to start this entry, but it got easier as I typed... hoping the same proves true for the rest of the website build-out!
