"ugh... Set my alarm for 7, body woke up at 5:30am."
Yes, this blog entry was inspired by various posts ;)
I realize this is the point where you may roll your eyes... but you just gained 90 minutes of time!
Believe it or not - some people (and this may be you) do not know how to handle this situation. For an early morning gift, here's a suggestion: Start with a glass of water and no social media or email stimulus whatsoever.
What are you missing? You were only going to be sleeping anyway!!
Don’t check into your phone until the time you were going to wake up. If you do, you’re going to loose that time real quick. Sure, possibly to something productive, but let's be honest with ourselves: it will most likely to something not productive. It’s going to be a waste of time that can potentially cut into the time you actually planned to wake up or start in on your itinerary.
SO WHY DO YOU NOT TELL ANYONE?
What happens when you tell people you just purchased a pick-up truck? They're eyes light up, they smile, and by the end of the time they say "Congratulations, that's great" - they've already identified 3 tasks that you are about to be asked to help with.
Unless you want someone else to fill that time for you - don't tell anyone about this time you just found until AFTER that time has expired!! Don’t post about it on FB, check in at "The Land Of No Sleep" or tweet about it. I know it's not the best use of manners, but it's ok to be selfish on this one!
Perhaps you're normally a night time or after-work gym person. Switch it up! Go now!
If it's light enough out, just go for a walk. Open a book, organize a drawer, sit on your patio and breathe!
For me - some of my most creative thinking happens in the morning - when I'm not locked into a planned schedule. I'm a firm believer of managing the calendar and not letting the calendar manage me. This includes recognizing what free time truly is, when it's right there in front of me, and how to maximize it's full potential.
Now let me put my Cardi's hat on for a moment here - if this is a regular occurrence - it might just be your mattress. Sleep is critical to great health. If you care about your health enough to purchase quality sneakers or pay a monthly gym membership fee - then care enough to put yourself on the right bed for your body.
I truly hope this isn't a regular occurrence for you, but when it does happen - don't start the day negative... you will sleep later on. "Free Time" is precious! It doesn't happen that often!
Just enjoy this unplanned gift and just roll with it - Enjoy your Truly “Free Time"
Go make Today AWESOME!!!
